Design Plan – Laundry Room Makeover!

March 19, 2018 By Lidia 6 Comments

When we were trying to sell our home in November, that’s when the spaces that needed some design attention caught my attention! I’ve already laid out my plans for my little girl’s room and our master bathroom but today, it’s all about the laundry!  Here is what our laundry room looks like now, in its current state:

Now it isn’t a huge space.  And originally there was a sink where the washer currently is now.  But when the old washer/dryer died, I designed it on the fly and decided on side-by-side front loaders to give myself some counter space, something I had been dying for in this little laundry area.  I just wish I had the time back then to have fully decked out the space!  But here we are!  Here’s the design plan I had in mind:

I think our Ottawa weather influenced this design, don’t you?!  For those who don’t know what our weather is like, we just got 20 cm of snow dumped on us last week.  BUT, I’m hopeful spring is around the corner.  And while we’re in the depths of freezing cold temperatures, the idea was that at least this laundry area would FEEL like spring!

While it isn’t evident in the pictures above, the washer/dryer is actually kind of a greige colour (half grey, half beige).  I wanted white appliances but we couldn’t get them in time!  So I picked out some very light cork flooring to go underneath, a spring like wallpaper to deck out all four walls, some clean and crisp white shelving and some green accents to round out the space.  I still have some lighting options to sort out (right now I have fluorescent lighting in there) as well as some decisions to make on counter-tops but I think this little space could sing with the right elements.  What do you think???

Oh!!!  And did I tell you that I will be participating in the “One Room Challenge” this year hosted Linda from “Calling it Home” and “House Beautiful”?!  It starts April 4th and I’ll be using one of my recent design plans to make over a space in 6 (SIX!!!) weeks!  I did this last year and it nearly killed me.  But it was SO.WORTH.IT.  Any guesses as to which room I’ll be doing?! 😉

Lidia, We like the materials you have selected. But, if you make it too inviting in there, maybe your husband will fight you to do the laundry!
