Design Plan – Master Bathroom Gut Job!

February 26, 2018 By Lidia 8 Comments

Ohhh this bathroom’s makeover was a long time coming. It’s a generous size, clean and non-offensive (I mean everything is beige!)  But it needed a refresh (ok, a gut job!)

Here are a few pictures to show you what I’m working with:

Photos are courtesy of Andy & Paddy (our awesome realtors!)

Did I mention it was ALL beige?!

So the plan is to rip it all out. We’re talking floor tile, tub, shower, toilet, vanity, everything!  Here is an aerial schematic view of the room:Master Bathroom Gut Job! www.designinsidethebox.com

Let me take you through it!  When you walk in, to your right is a very large double vanity that is butted up to the window. To your left is a privacy wall that shields onlookers from the toilet. In one corner is a full shower and in the other is a jetted tub. To save some $$$, we’re going to try and leave all of the plumbing where it is but we’ll make a few tweaks!  Want to see my design direction for this space?Master Bathroom Gut Job! www.designinsidethebox.com

I wanted to introduce a calming environment for when you do “your business” 😉

I’d incorporate that awesome marble mosaic tile on the floor, add in a very modern tub to the corner that would then allow me some space to hang some drapes using that gorgeous fabric!  (Note: we face a brick wall so drapes aren’t really required BUT they do add a lovely touch, don’t you think?!)  The vanity is a soft blue number that is topped by a carrera marble counter-top, the same material as the floor tile. Add to that two of these awesome mirrors and bam!, we have a bathroom I’d be proud of folks!

I did think about eliminating either the shower or the tub but that’s such a personal choice. I’m not a bath person (nor is John) and our little girl is lucky enough to have her own bathroom with her own bathtub.  So I decided to keep both in this space as eventually we’ll be selling the place and I don’t want people to say “why is there no tub in the ensuite?!” or “why is there a giant shower?!”

With the design plan set for our little girl’s new bedroom makeover and now this bathroom’s plan is set in motion, I’m starting to worry about time and how we’re going to get all these projects done! Did I mention I was also on an organizing kick?! (I need a 2786426759 hour day…)

Thanks! (I’m still trying to figure out how to de-beigeify it – stay tuned!)
