Welcome to our wall of ducks!

October 17, 2016 By Lidia 16 Comments

Brace yourself.  What I’m about to show you is what a corner of my living room used to look like:

It wasn’t TERRIBLE but it was pretty bland.  And it looks like the TV is growing hair.

In the re-design of the space, the TV got moved (you’ll see where in a later reveal!) and I was left with a big blank space to fill.  Now you’ve seen what our mantel looks like from a previous teaser post but here is what now lies next to it:

Ta-da!  A wall of ducks!  Why ducks you ask?  It’s a bit of a badge of honour for me.  A few years ago we were in Hyde Park near Kensington Palace in London and I saw this cute duck.  I wanted one picture of the duck looking head-on at the camera but it wouldn’t oblige.  I had to chase it in the park (resulting in the other 7 pictures shown above) but then, vindication!  I captured this photo:

It’s safe to say the duck was not impressed.  (We left the park shortly thereafter for fear of being pecked to death)

The pictures in the middle of each row are of the beautiful flowers my in-laws gifted me after the birth of Avery.  Purple also happens to be the accent colour in our living room – bonus!

Wondering where the picture ledges are from?  IKEA of course!  We could have DIY-ed them however they had a 50% off sale, so for all the picture ledges we needed, the cost was pretty reasonable to have pre-made painted ledges:

Three of the smaller (55cm) versions of the ledges, when butted up together, worked best for our wall size in terms of symmetry and space and we needed a total of 12 (4 rows of 3 ledges per row) for the whole wall.  Since we have a toddler (now a pre-schooler!) in the house, we leaned the pictures against the picture ledge but then we used 3M Command strips to secure the tops of the frames to the wall:

They’ve held up well so far (and are pretty darn cute!)

I’ll later reveal what resides underneath these ducks – hint, toys are involved – which, now that I think of it, could answer why my one of my daughter’s first words was “quack”!
