Organize with yogurt cups!

January 1, 2017 By Lidia 12 Comments

Happy New Year!!!  Did you have a great holiday?  My heart (and stomach!) are absolutely full – I hope yours are too!

Now that we’re in January, thoughts turn to getting our lives back into gear and, like most stores are telling us to do, organize!  My next project will make you think that I’ve lost my mind but one morning, as my daughter was finishing up some of her yogurt,  I stared at the empty cups and a lightbulb went off!  (Literally and figuratively as John just turned on the living room light that was above my head).  I thought about organizing small do-dads into yogurt cups!

These are the ones I’m talking about:

They are tiny but oh so useful!  I have cleaned up and saved all of her yogurt cups since and set out to use them for a myriad of tiny things I wanted to organize.  My first use for them was to organize my earrings (which I can never find or if I find one I like, I can’t find it’s other half).  I found this decorative box at HomeSense (aka HomeGoods in the US) and I got it for a steal:

I loosely arranged the yogurt cups inside the box to see how many I could fit:

15 was the magic number!  Plus there was a little room to spare for some longer pieces of jewelry.

Next up was to decorate these little cups.  I took scrap decorative paper, measured out the strip of paper I needed to cover the yogurt cup label and then sliced up the paper using my paper slicer:

Using double-sided tape, I applied them to each little cup:

To attach these cups to the box, I used velcro with a self-adhesive backing and applied a small square to the bottom of each cup:

And in the box they went:

Each little cup will hold a large pair of earrings (or a couple of small pairs) which will make it easy for me to not only find a pair of earrings to wear for the day but it will also help me keep inventory of what I have:

Now I haven’t fully finished organizing all of my jewelry yet but my daughter wanted to help style the decorative box for my pictures:

The kid has got talent!

I get a kick out of re-using items, don’t you? (Aren’t they functional and pretty?!)  I hope you find this post inspiring!  Happy New Year once again (and happy recycling!!)
