DIY FREE Drawer Organizers!

This post almost didn’t happen. I ended up with a sinus infection (again!) that crippled me…do you get those? So horrible and they feel never-ending…the moment relief came was AMAZING!!!

So onto today’s post, how to DIY free drawer organizers! The idea came about when I was getting ready one morning and I opened up my make-up drawer. I don’t have a “before” picture to show you but suffice it to say I dumped most of it out and promptly trashed all of my old makeup, brushes and whatever other random things made it in there. Here’s my emptied drawer!

You’ll need the following things that, after Christmas, you’ll most likely have on hand:

• A cardboard box
• Wrapping paper
• Scissors
• Glue stick
• Clear tape

The next step is the hardest: measuring! I re-did this step I can’t tell you how many times as this isn’t my strong suit. The 87624567624 time was the charm 😉

The first thing I measured was the base of the drawer to line it with the pretty floral paper I had:

Next you’ll need to determine what items you want to put back. I was vicious. The items that made my list were ones that I use on a daily (or almost daily!) basis. So I measured out all the little compartments I needed and cut my cardboard dividers. In my case, my inner drawer measured 13″ x 18″ and I needed the following cardboard divider pieces:

• 2 x 16″ long (3″ high)
• 1 x 13″ long (3″ high)
• 3 x 6″ long (3″ high)
• 1 x 3″ long (3″ high)

Then you’ll need to wrap them in the wrapping paper of your choice – I chose a pink and white striped one. I took each divider, used my glue stick to adhere one side of it to the paper, rolled the divider over and applied more glue to adhere the other side of the divider to the paper and then cut the whole thing out. Think taco when you’re wrapping your dividers. No edges to fold, you’re just trying to cover the facing pieces and leaving the edges raw. Don’t worry if the edges aren’t perfect, when they’re wedged in, you won’t see them!

Now comes the fun part, install them and put your stuff back! (While I cut each divider to fit snugly amongst the others, I used a bit of clear tape on either side of each divider to make sure they were in there solidly)

Doesn’t it look much better?! And the things I put back are ones I actually use! (A novel idea for me anyway!)
